January Favorites

I can’t believe January came and went by so fast! I feel like it has only been a few weeks since I moved from Sacramento back home. Through this past month, I have transitioned my life to a more minimal, but still a little pampered lifestyle. No more waking up at 6 am and rushing to make coffee/breakfast, doing my skincare, and picking out an outfit that will be suitable for the classes I have that day. Instead, now I’m waking up around 8 or 9 am, doing a little stretching or yoga before breakfast, and then ending my morning by getting ready for the day.

Because I was a Kinesiology Exercise Science major, for most days I had to dress in athletic clothes for my labs, and it was just easier to dress in athletic clothes in the morning, than having to change in the bathroom later. But these days, because I’m at home most of the time to study for my certification test, I made it one of my resolutions to always change out of my pajamas and into regular clothes to motivate me for the day. For a couple of days, I would stay in my pajamas all day (and not saying that there is anything wrong with that), but I realized that on those days I would be a little sluggish and wasn’t able to accomplished everything I planned for the day. And I could be just in my mind, but changing from pajamas to regular clothes really helped me get in the right mindset. As January was the first big transition month for me, here are some things that I have been loving since I moved back home to Southern California:

  1. White Barn Candle –
    Pineapple Mango

I bought this candle during the White Barn’s annual sale last year and started burning it during the Summertime, but switched it out for the ‘Leaves’ and ‘Hot Cocoa & Cream’ candles as the weather got colder. But since I came home, the weather here is so nice and sunny that even though it’s still technically winter, the sunny weather had me craving a fresh and fruity scent! Can’t wait to go and buy the 3-wick candle in this scent the next time I go to White Barn.

  2. Garnier Fructis –
Triple Nutrition Marvelous Oil Hair Elixir

While in college, I had a fascination with coloring my hair (along with my roommate and best friend) and because of that my hair started to get damage and dry. My hair texture is naturally slightly curly and frizzy, I was not blessed with the silky pin straight hair like most Chinese girls. And even though I haven’t colored my hair for almost a year, my virgin hair is not at the length where I’m comfortable cutting off the old color on the bottom. And I kind of like how old hair color has grown out, it’s like a natural ombre! But because I haven’t cut off all of the colored hair, I have been keeping it moisturized and smooth this with hair oil. Because my hair is pretty long, a little longer than mid-back length, I use about 4-6 pumps of this hair oil for my hair before I air or blow dry. I like that even though the oil seems thick, it doesn’t just sit on top of the hair, but really sinks into the strands. And the nice smell is a plus!!

  3. Elizavecca Milky Piggy – Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask

My little sister got this for Christmas and we have been loving using this on our spa days together! This mask is so much fun to use! As you slather your face in the clay paste, you can see it start to bubble and expand ( be careful, don’t put it too close to your eyes or nose, as it expands at least 1 inch from where you place it). As the mask starts to expand, you can hear the bubbles popping and feel you pores being cleaned. This is definitely a mask that I would use if it had some extra time in the night, as it takes time for the mask to fully develop and wash off. But the results are amazing! As I rinse it off, I can feel how smooth my skin has become and the after result is brighter skin.

  4. Wet n’ Wild –
1 Step Wonder Gel Nail Polish

Painting my nails is something I do to relieve stress. I used to love this nail polish when I was college, since all the labs I had, I was constantly washing my hands. Which led to my nail polish coming off a lot quicker! This nail polish lasts almost as long as it does when I get gel nails, but without all the time for the appointment. One or two coats later and I have my nails done perfectly, and I love how fast it dries! Now that I’m back home, I’ve been using this nail polish again when I relax. The colors I’ve been loving are ‘Crime of Passion’ a fiery red and ‘Left Marooned’ a beautiful vampire-wine color.

  5. Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant –
    Sport Luxe

This deodorant is perfect for those with sensitive skin because it doesn’t contain the harsh chemicals that most deodorants contain such as aluminum or synthetic fragrance. As someone that is pretty active, I find that this deodorant keeps me fresh and odor free. Out of all the different deodorants Lavanila makes, this one is by far my favorite! I have tried a lot of aluminum-free deodorants, but this is the best one at controlling the odor!

  6. L’Occitane –
Dry Skin Hand Cream 20% Shea Butter

I bought this during the L’Occitane  winter sales last year and have been loving it as my new hand cream! Because of the large size, I keep this by my bed and put it on right before I go to sleep. I love this hand cream because it sinks in really quickly and doesn’t leave my hands greasy! I hate when I put on hand cream and then find that I can’t hold or open anything because my hands are so slippery.! My little sister has also been loving this for the non-greasy feeling and she hates putting on lotion!

  7. M&M’s –Dark Chocolate

I got this in my stocking at Christmas from my Mom. She knows how much I love dark chocolate and the fact that it comes in M&M size is perfect. I have never really liked milk chocolate, but I love how colorful M&M’s are. The only thing is that I usually can’t eat them because they are too sweet for me. I love snacking on these during the day or adding some into my trail mixes. And the fact that it comes in a resealable bag is a plus since it keeps them nice and fresh and doesn’t let them spill out if it gets knocked over.

  8. Giorgio Armani Beauty –
    Si Eau de Parfum

I just love the smell of this perfume! With notes of chypre, blackcurrant nectar, light florals, and musky blond wood, it makes me feel like I can take on anything! And I love how they allow you to purchase this fragrance in a rollerball size to see if you love it before committing to the larger size. I like to test new scents in rollerball size for a couple of months before I decide if I want to splurge on the large one.

  9. L’Oreal –
    Balm Nude
    (318 Heavenly Berry)

These days I haven’t been wearing that much make-up since I hardly leave the house. But when I do feel like putting on a little color I have been reaching for this Balm Nude tinted lipstick. I love how nourishing my lips feel as if I put on a regular chapstick, but the little pop of color helps my face look a little less pale.

I hope your January was full of fun and all those New Year’s resolutions are still in tack! Because I didn’t leave the house much, unlike when I was in college, the things I used on an everyday basis became easy staples in my routine.

What have you been loving in the month of January? I would love to know!

Every day, Lai day! Happy January! ♥
