Cleansers for dry and acne prone skin

Finding a good cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils and leaves it smooth and clean is hard to find. Since my skin is dry and easily irritated, I have always been a little apprehensive about trying new cleansers. I like to do my research on the product, see the ingredients, what skin type it was created for, and if those that recommended it have similar skin to myself. The bad thing about trial and error of finding a cleanser that suits your skin is that you may waste a lot of money on the ones that don’t work for you. Luckily I have two sisters and a brother that I can pass on products to if they don’t work for me — since they have a different skin type.

Here are some products that have helped get my skin clear and clean without making my skin irritated or dry.

  • Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
I have luckily never had large acne spots, but a lot of small white ones. During my third year in college, it got really bad and I had it all over my forehead and jawline. I couldn’t figure out what triggered the flare-up. Whenever I would visit my Dermatologist they would say its just hormones and prescribe me acne creams or pills. However, it wasn’t until my eye doctor appointment, where during our talk we got on about my skin, and she told me it could be my skin’s pH and recommended this cleanser which she loved using. At first, I was skeptical since the Dermatologist never said anything about my skin’s pH, but after researching I found out that your skin’s pH is an important thing to keep in check. After about 2 weeks of using this cleanser, I started noticing the white bumps on my forehead slowly diminishing and within a month my forehead was completely clear!
  • St. Ives Green Tea Blackhead Face Scrub
I have been using this face scrub since high school and it’s the best at exfoliating my skin without being harsh. It also has salicylic acid to help with blemishes and olive leaf extract for antioxidants, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. I also love that the little scrubby bits in the scrub are small and not irritating, some face scrubs I have used in the past had beads that would get in my eyes and would be a pain to get out. Since I switched to only using this face scrub, I no longer have scrubby beads in my eyes.
  • Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish
I found out about this cleanser while watching some of my favorite UK based YouTube Creators. So many of them raved about how this was one of their holy grail products that just gets the job done well. I started off with the kit and after a week of using it, I fell in love with how gentle it cleansed my skin. Using the cleanser with a muslin cloth also allows you to gently exfoliate your skin daily. I love using this cleanser, especially during the winter months as nothing is better than getting a steam facial after a long day out in the cold.
  • The Face Shop Natural Rice Water Light Cleansing Oil
This is my number one, holy grail oil cleanser! I have gone through so many bottles of this stuff! I use this as my step one cleanser at night time to get rid of all my make up. Yes, even my waterproof mascara that would otherwise take me 5 cotton squares and lots of makeup remover to get off. I use three pumps of this all over my face and massage it in to break down all the makeup and dirt that accumulates on your skin when you walk around. Once I massage it in for a minute, I wet my hands with warm water and massage my face again to mix the oil and water together. Once the oil and water mix together and my face is covered in a milky white liquid, I rinse the cleanser off. This oil cleanser never leaves my face oily or stings my eyes. If I happen to use this in the morning, I would usually follow up with my Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser as a double cleanse. But, most of the time I use it at night time and then jump into the shower and use the St. Ives Green Tea Blackhead Face Scrub to exfoliate my skin.

I hope some of these recommendations will make it into your cleansing routine!

Remember to pat and not rub your skin

Every day, Lai day! Have a good day~ ♥
